A Toronto warehouse for creative types was transformed into a cardboard funhouse on Saturday, when the Centre for Social Innovation invited children and their parents to set up and play home-made arcade games inspired by a heartwarming viral video.
The social enterprise organized the Global Cardboard Challenge as a tribute to nine-year-old Caine Monroy, whose cardboard gaming constructions in Los Angeles became the subject of a short documentary. The short became an online sensation over the summer, logging millions of views.
The do-it-yourself arcade projects were brought together to the Artscape Wychwood Barns, where adults and children were encouraged to assemble and play each other's creations in a 650-square-metre "Cardboard Playdium."
Patrons were able to buy "Pay What You Can" Fun Passes, with the suggested donation being $2.
