Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside hauled out an empty chair during his annual state of the city address on Thursday night and pretended to have a discussion with Premier David Alward.
It was a moment of humour in an otherwise detailed speech about Fredericton's challenges and upcoming priorities.
Woodside acknowledged he was stealing his oratorical gimmick from Clint Eastwood, who famously had a conversation with an imaginary Barack Obama and an empty chair at the Republican National Convention in August.
Woodside started by saying he wanted a "private" moment with the premier.
"Mr. Premier, your beer prices are too high," he told the empty chair.
Woodside used the rest of his speech to criticize the provincial government's new equalization funding plan being created for municipalities.
