Ten-year-old Oisín Millea is touring the province of Quebec this summer, retracing the path of a handwritten message he found in a bottle that washed up on the shore near his home at Passage East, Ireland.

Oisín brought the bottle back to Quebec, and the girls who put the bottle in the ocean met him at the airport in Montreal.

Oisín found the bottle last October, but it was tossed into the ocean by two girls from Montreal more than eight years before.

In June 2004, friends Claudia Garneau and Charlaine Dalpé, then 12 years old, wrote the note, put it into a green plastic pop bottle and cast it into the sea while on vacation at Grande-Vallée, in Quebec's Gaspé region.

You can listen to the story of discovery here. (Worth a listen to hear his charming Irish accent.)

Message in a bottle: from Quebec to IrelandFrom Grand Vallée in the Gaspé, all the way to Passage East, Ireland - that was the path of a plastic green bottle with a message inside....

"I thought it was just rubbish. So I picked it up, looked in the bottle and then I opened it," Oisin told CBC Montreal about the moment when he made the discovery. "I tried to read it and I thought it was in Spanish, and then I found out it was in French."

The Millea family and the girls from Quebec met over Skype last October, after they learned about each other through reports in the media. At the time, they vowed to meet in person during the summer.

Employees from Tourism Quebec saw a golden promotional opportunity when they heard about the story and decided to organize a tour of Quebec for Oisín and his family. They even sent him special luggage from Quebec for his trip.

Oisín has also become quite the expert at giving interviews. He spoke to several reporters when he first found the bottle, and now journalists are interested in telling the next part of his story.
